ADLINK Technology has entered into a strategic alliance and joint development agreement with Under Control Robotics, the parent company of the robotics startup Noble Machines. This collaboration seeks to merge ADLINK’s advanced edge AI platforms with Noble Machines’ autonomy software to pioneer a new generation of versatile, human-like robots for industrial applications.

Focus on Human-Like Robots for Industrial Use

The partnership centers on creating bi-pedal and bi-manual robots capable of performing complex tasks in demanding environments. These robots are engineered to replicate human mobility and manipulation skills, enabling them to safely handle heavy loads and execute tasks that traditionally require human dexterity and decision-making.

Target Industries and Operational Challenges

Initial deployment targets include industries such as manufacturing, mining, construction, energy, petrochemicals, and public utilities. These sectors frequently experience labor shortages and expose workers to hazardous conditions like dust, heat, and vibrations. The introduction of autonomous robots aims to mitigate risks for human workers while maintaining operational efficiency.

Technology Integration

ADLINK’s DLAP edge AI platform, developed on the NVIDIA Jetson Thor architecture, will be integrated with Noble Machines’ autonomy and whole-body control software. This combination provides advanced reasoning, sensing, and motion control capabilities for the robots. The hardware supports multiple sensor interfaces, including up to eight GMSL camera connections, four Ethernet ports, and wireless modules such as 5G and Wi-Fi. The system is designed to operate reliably across wide temperature ranges and complies with IEC 60068 standards for shock and vibration resistance.

Advantages of AI-Driven Autonomy

Unlike conventional software that requires exhaustive pre-programming of potential scenarios, the AI algorithms embedded in these robots enable real-time decision-making and adaptability to unforeseen situations. This capability is critical for operating in dynamic and hazardous environments where on-the-spot judgment is necessary.

Leadership Perspectives

Ethan Chen, General Manager of ADLINK’s Edge Computing Platforms unit, highlighted that this partnership extends ADLINK’s hardware expertise into general-purpose robotics, transitioning from supporting existing DLAP platforms to co-developing new computing systems based on Jetson Thor.

Wei Ding, CEO of Under Control Robotics, emphasized the complementary nature of the collaboration, with ADLINK providing durable industrial hardware and Noble Machines contributing advanced whole-body control software. The joint effort also addresses supply chain and deployment challenges inherent in industrial robotics.

Implications and Future Outlook

The partnership aims to deliver turnkey robotic solutions for customers who might otherwise hesitate to invest in experimental technologies. Successfully deploying these robots could reshape labor dynamics in hazardous industries by reducing human exposure to dangerous tasks without disrupting existing workflows.

However, the viability of this initiative depends on the robots’ ability to safely and effectively respond to unpredictable conditions without compromising themselves or their human coworkers.
