SAP is accelerating its commitment to European AI and cloud sovereignty through the introduction of the EU AI Cloud, a unified framework designed to provide organizations in Europe with greater autonomy and choice in managing AI and cloud services.
Unified Approach to European AI Sovereignty
The EU AI Cloud initiative enables enterprises and public sector entities to operate AI workloads within SAP’s European data centers, trusted European providers, or their own on-premise environments. This approach aims to address the region’s stringent data protection and sovereignty requirements by keeping data operations localized and compliant.
Collaboration with Cohere Enhances AI Capabilities
In partnership with Cohere, SAP plans to integrate advanced agent-style and multimodal AI tools through the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). These models will cater to industries with high demands for data residency and control, ensuring that organizations retain oversight over AI performance and data governance.
Cohere emphasizes that this collaboration ensures cutting-edge AI technologies remain accessible to organizations restricted from transferring data outside European borders.
Comprehensive Ecosystem with Global and European Partners
Alongside Cohere, SAP is integrating models and applications from prominent players including Mistral AI and OpenAI into its platform. This blend of partners allows companies to access a diverse array of AI-as-a-Service (XaaS) tools, with the flexibility to select deployment environments that align with their regulatory and operational needs.
Flexible Deployment Options Tailored to Security Needs
The EU AI Cloud functions through SAP Sovereign Cloud, giving customers the ability to determine their preferred level of control over the technology stack. AI models operate on SAP cloud infrastructure and SAP BTP located in European data centers, deliberately segregating operations from US-based hyperscalers to reinforce sovereignty.
Deployment Models Include:
- SAP Sovereign Cloud on SAP Cloud Infrastructure (EU): Utilizes open-source infrastructure hosted within SAP’s European data center network, ensuring data remains within the EU to comply with regional data protection laws.
- SAP Sovereign Cloud On-Site: Infrastructure is managed by SAP but physically hosted within a customer-selected data center, offering maximum control over data, legal compliance, and operational governance while maintaining access to SAP’s cloud architecture.
- Selected Hyperscalers by Market: Allows customers to run SAP commercial SaaS solutions on global cloud providers with added sovereignty features tailored to regional compliance demands.
- Delos Cloud: A sovereign cloud service based in Germany specifically designed for public sector requirements.
By providing multiple deployment pathways and integrating a wide range of partner AI models, SAP’s EU AI Cloud seeks to empower European organizations to harness modern AI technology without compromising on privacy, security, or regulatory adherence.
