New Collaboration Focused on AI-Powered Robotics for Risky Workplaces

ADLINK Technology has entered into a strategic alliance and joint development agreement with Under Control Robotics, the company behind the robotics startup Noble Machines. This partnership aims to merge ADLINK’s edge AI platforms with Noble Machines’ autonomy software to develop a new generation of general-purpose robots tailored for modern manufacturing and engineering plants.

Human-Like Robots for Demanding Industrial Tasks

The project centers on bi-pedal, bi-manual robots designed to emulate human capabilities, enabling them to operate in challenging industrial environments. These robots are intended to handle heavy loads and perform complex tasks requiring mobility and dexterity, making them suitable for sectors such as manufacturing, mining, construction, energy, petrochemicals, and public utilities.

Technology Integration and Capabilities

The partnership will combine ADLINK’s DLAP edge AI platform—built on NVIDIA’s Jetson Thor architecture—with Noble Machines’ autonomy and whole-body control software. ADLINK’s hardware supports multiple voltage feeds, high-bandwidth sensor interfaces including up to eight GMSL camera connections, four Ethernet ports, and 5G or Wi-Fi connectivity. The systems are designed to endure wide temperature ranges and meet IEC 60068 standards for shock and vibration resistance.

Noble Machines’ software manages perception, reasoning, and coordinated motion control, allowing robots to make real-time decisions and replicate human-like mobility and manipulation. This capability is critical for replacing human workers in environments that are hazardous or physically demanding.

Addressing Labor Shortages and Safety Concerns

Industries targeted by this collaboration often face labor shortages and expose workers to risks such as dust, heat, heavy lifting, and vibrations. Traditional mechanization struggles in these contexts due to the need for on-the-spot decision-making and manual handling. By leveraging AI-driven real-time reasoning, the robots can autonomously adapt to unforeseen situations without extensive reprogramming.

Industry Leaders Highlight Partnership Benefits

Ethan Chen, General Manager of ADLINK’s Edge Computing Platforms, emphasized that this agreement extends their edge computing hardware into emerging general-purpose robotics. The joint development will enhance the DLAP platform’s capabilities with Jetson Thor-based computing.

Wei Ding, CEO of Under Control Robotics, highlighted how ADLINK’s robust industrial hardware complements Noble Machines’ sophisticated software, particularly in whole-body control. The collaboration aims to overcome challenges related to hardware durability and supply chain integration, facilitating broader industrial robot deployment.
