RingCentral Expands AI Receptionist Capabilities
RingCentral has announced significant enhancements to its AI Receptionist product, known as AIR, by adding integrations with Shopify, Calendly, and WhatsApp. This move aims to extend AIR’s functionality beyond traditional call answering towards handling more complex customer service operations.
New Integrations for Streamlined Customer Interactions
The updated AIR can now manage some order inquiries directly through Shopify, schedule appointments via Calendly, and respond to inbound messages on WhatsApp. Additionally, AIR is being deployed in shared SMS inboxes and call queues, enabling it to answer texts and step in during high call volumes or when staff are unavailable.
Targeting Small and Mid-Sized Businesses
RingCentral reports that over 11,800 businesses currently use AIR, primarily in sectors such as healthcare, financial services, legal, hospitality, and construction. These industries benefit from AIR’s ability to automate front-desk operations and provide after-hours support.
Customer Success Stories
Keller Interiors, an installation company serving Lowe’s Home Improvement, implemented AIR across 33 locations. Beth Owens, Chief of Staff at Keller Interiors, highlighted how AIR resolved a complex call routing challenge without the need for a traditional call center. The solution reduced customer wait times from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds and improved satisfaction scores by three points within four months.
Tara Breaux, Vice-President of Operations at Maple Federal Credit Union, shared that AIR helped reduce hold times by 90% in branch locations, enabling faster service delivery and reducing staff workload.
Enhanced Features Including Multilingual Support
Besides the new platform integrations, RingCentral introduced automatic language detection in AIR. The system can identify a caller’s language and continue the conversation accordingly, supporting ten languages such as English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Portuguese.
Industry Perspective and Future Outlook
Michelle Morgan, Research Manager for AI-enabled sales and customer service at IDC, emphasized that RingCentral’s AIR updates exemplify applied AI by directly addressing common business challenges. Joe Fahrner, RingCentral’s Vice-President of Growth for AI products, described AIR as evolving into a “digital employee” for small to mid-market enterprises.
Availability and Pricing
AIR is now available as a standalone product starting at $49 per month, which includes 100 minutes of usage. Existing RingCentral customers can add AIR for $39 per month with the same minute allocation.
These developments illustrate how AI tools like AIR are transforming everyday business operations by automating routine tasks, improving customer experience, and optimizing resource allocation.
